Independently, all across the U.S. and beyond, "Mom Bands" have emerged with increasing visibility over the past 2-3 years. These are bands which either have specific "motherhood" oriented themes in their music, or have band leaders and members who specifically bring their identity as mothers to the forefront of their public image as musicians, rather than a separate or hidden part of who they are.

The rise of mom-bands runs parallel to the wave of woman-oriented and mother-oriented books, magazines, and online media such as "The Mommy Myth", "HipMama", and Salon.com's "Mothers Who Think" as well as programming on the Lifetime and Oxygen TV networks and ABC's smash hit "Desperate Housewives".

The mom-band movement also gets support from the surge of attention to younger female musicians, ranging from interest in all-girl bands such as "The Donna's" to the "Rock and Roll Camp for Girls" and the meteoric rise of Daisy Rock guitars.

Adding fuel to the fire is the new Mamapalooza festival of mother musicians and artists, first started in NYC and now moving nationwide...
