When I was pregnant
with my second child, unhappy with the extra pounds I was still carrying
from my first pregnancy, I took a class offered through my local hospital
called "Fit for Delivery." The class was run by a physical therapist
who spent the first hour of class discussing topics such as nutrition
and body mechanics and comfort techniques such as proper bending, lifting
and relaxation breathing. Afterward, we were put through the paces of
a safe 45-minute exercise session. I was shocked at how much I learned.
My OB was fantastic, but outside of telling me how much weight I gained
and what my blood pressure was, he really wasn't giving me a lot of information
about my changing body. A fitness class such as the one I took, designed
specifically for pregnant women, was invaluable. I felt better, was less
exhausted, and lost my "baby fat" much quicker the second time
around.

Once your clothes start getting
tight, go out and buy yourself a couple of pairs of your favorite jeans
two sizes larger than usual...you will feel happier and thinner! You can
extend their life by looping a rubber band through the hole to expand
the waistband. These jeans will be great for the first couple of months
postpartum when you don't want to try on your old clothes. Who feels great
slopping around in sweat pants all the time?

Always put newborns to bed
awake so they will know how to fall asleep on their own (especially if
they wake in the night.)

Never, ever wake a sleeping
